Pakistan's faded out wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal pummeled his way into the limelight on Friday after being out of favor for a rich amount of time. The 35-year-old struck 71 balls 150 in Pakistan's National T20 Cup to knead a historic opening partnership of 209 runs with compatriot Salman Butt who made 55 off 49. The duo's match-winning partnership proved to be a reckoning for the Pakistan selectors.

Lahore Whites took on Islamabad in National T20 Cup in Rawalpindi. Batting first, Lahore didn't concede a wicket to post 209 runs onboard credits to the groundbreaking partnership of Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt. Although Akmal has made it to the national team recently, the controversial ex-captain Salman Butt didn't figure in the national side for more than seven years now.
Akmal and Butt en route to their feat, hammered a bowling line-up starring Umar Gul and Mohammad Irfan.
Akmal and Butt dethroned the previous pair of Kent’s JL Denly and DJ Bell's 207-run opening stand in English county cricket, featuring for Drummond against Essex. Enroute to his 150 runs, Akmal smashed 12 sixes and 14 fours and in the process, the right-handed batsman surpassed South African wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock's highest individual T20 score - 126*, by a wicket-keeper.

Chasing the mammoth total, Islamabad were all-out for 100 in 18.4 overs. Only four batsmen reached double figures of 17, 13, 11 and 19 while the rest perished.
The Lahore cricketer not only became the first ever Pakistani and the first wicket-keeper batsman to score 150 runs, the opener is the first Pakistani and 8th overall to score 150 or more in a T20 match. His knock is the 10th highest individual score in the shortest format of professional cricket.
Akmal etched his name in the record books as the first Pakistani and only the third overall batsman to score five consecutive fifty, after India's Virender Sehwag and Hamilton Masakadza of Zimbabwe. 52, 65, 63 and 52 being his other scores before this match in the ongoing tournament.
Not only did Akmal hit 12 sixes but also clinched the record for hitting the most sixes by a Pakistani, overtaking 10 sixes in an inning by Bilal Asif.
Involved in a spot-fixing scandal, a national side regular, Salman Butt was convicted and jailed for 30 months for conspiracy charges relating to the spot-fixing, along with fellow cricketers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. Bans on Butt and fellow conspirators Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were lifted in August 2015 by the International Cricket Council (ICC), allowing them to return to all forms of cricket from September 2, 2015.

Mohammad Amir made a brilliant comeback into the international circuit from 2016 and went on to bowl his exemplary spell of 3/16 in the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 against India. He played a crucial role in helping Pakistan to lift the Champions Trophy title. Salman Butt, however, didn't get a national call after 2010.
